The Toronto Maple Leafs made moves this afternoon as the club claimed defenceman Troy Stecher off waivers from the Edmonton Oilers. The Leafs also announced that Anthony Stolarz was placed on the injured reserve.
Troy Stecher is a puck-moving defenceman and will certainly help a need for the Maple Leafs. Stecher is a 5-foot-10 right shot. In six games this season, he has zero points. Stecher played in 66 games last season with the Oilers, putting up seven points.
The Richmond, B.C., native has a cap hit of $787,500 and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Stecher is a 10-year NHL veteran and has played in 566 games, putting up 22 goals and 95 assists for 117 points.
Leafs missing another goalie
Toronto will be without goaltender Anthony Stolarz for at least the next two games. He left Tuesdayβs game against Boston with a lower-body injury.
Stolarz has struggled this season with a 6-5-1 record and an .884 save percentage.
