Rumours of the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to add a top six forward got a little spicy in a recent report former NHL player and Toronto Marlie Jordan Schmaltz joined the The Leafs Nation and discussed about the Maple Leafs needing a forward saying βhe might know someone who could fit the billβ Schmaltz was implying to his brother Nick Schmaltz who plays for the Utah Mammoth.
Schmaltz is a speedy and gifted winger who would be a solid addition to the Maple Leafs top six. Another great part of his game is his defensive play and playmaking ability. He has spent nine seasons in the NHL with the Utah Mammoth, Arizona Coyotes and Chicago Blackhawks. Schmaltz had a career year in the 2024-25 season playing in 82 games and recording 20 goals and 43 assists for 63 points.
Familiarity with the Leafs
For people who donβt know Schmaltz has some familiarity with two of the Maple Leafs stars. Schmaltz trains with Auston Matthews in the offseason, while Schmaltz and his family are close with William Nylander and his family.
Adding Schmaltz to one of Torontoβs top line would help them with a need and could be a temporary fix for now, if Toronto would look to add in the offseason.
Would the Leafs consider trading Nick Robinson for Schmaltz? Thatβs something that could be a possibility but salary retention and possibly a cap dump in David Kampf.
Schmaltz is in the final year of his seven year contract. He makes $5,850,000. If he hits the market Iβd expect he will be getting a lot calls from teams for his services.
